The British Open Crabbing Championship has been held annually on thirty occasions up to and including the 2010 event. Great fun for children of all ages (nobody born before 1890 could enter!). These events raised funds for national, county, sea-related and local charities and good causes. All proceeds from the 2009 Championship were donated to the Walberswick Sea and River Defence organisations whose sole aim and objective is to protect this community and its environment for years to come. The 2010 event benefitted The East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) Treehouse Appeal.

In later years attendance figures soared. In 2007 a record 762 entrants enjoyed this event, in 2008 this record was smashed by an attendance of 978, however 2009 saw an amazing attendance of 1252 entrants - so many in fact that a whole new crabbing area had to be opened - quite unprecedented. The British Crabbing Federation did remarkably well to accommodate such unexpected numbers. Attendance numbers settled down in 2010.

Sadly however, in 2011 it was decided that the problems of the sheer numbers of people attending the Crabbing Championship event meant that the organisers needed to step back and review the whole event, giving consideration to all the issues involved.

The British Crabbing Federation have been thrilled at the success of the Championship and the pleasure brought to thousands of children and their families over the years who have enjoyed a fun event whilst raising funds for good causes.
