Wednesday Night Film Club : Days of Heaven (1978) (PG)

on Wednesday, 11th May 2022
Venue: The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth IP19 8BY link
Directed by Terrence Malick, USA, 1hr 35 mins. With Richard Gere, Brooke Adams and Sam Shepard. Considered a landmark of 1970's Hollywood, maverick director Malick's second film was in marked contrast to his classic lovers-on-the-run Noir debut Badlands. This romantic period drama starring Richard Gere, Brooke Adams and Sam Shepard tells the story of Bill and Abby, lovers who travel to the Texas Panhandle to harvest crops for a wealthy farmer. Bill persuades Abby to claim the fortune of the dying farmer by tricking him into a false marriage.
Days of Heaven brought together some of the most distinguished names in cinema: featuring a score by Ennio Moriconne and ravishing cinematography by Nestor Almendros and Haskell Wexler, it went on to bring Malick the prestigious Best Director award at Cannes before clashes with the studio system meant he withdrew into self-imposed exile and didn't release another film for twenty years.
Ticket Details: Standard ticket £7. Cinema Members £5. Advance booking online.
