Turbulence to Tranquility walking tour, at National Trust Dunwich Heath

Discover the fascinating and turbulent history of Dunwich Heath on this walking tour. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. Dunwich Heath has a long history beyond its acquisition by the National Trust. Our tour will show you around the site to delve into its past as a smugglers' haven, coastguard lookout, World War One spotting station, and World War Two D-Day training ground. Meet outside the Visitor Welcome hut. NB Event is not suitable for children.

Southwold Model Yacht Regattas - Cups Regatta

Model yacht sailing has been taking place in Southwold for over 100 years. A tremendously fun and absorbing activity which is easy to get the hang of. People of all ages and abilities can join in. Anyone is welcome to come and have a go – we can even lend you a boat for the day and show you what to do.
This morning the Golden Jubilee Cup for adult sailors (aged 16 and over) – a knockout competition in which adults can sail any boat; The Sole Bay Bell for large boats (hull length of 32-36 inches); The De Lacroix RoseBowl for homemade boats – any size boat or age sailor but boat must be completely homemade and sailed by the builder or by a child of the builder during the builder’s lifetime. This afternoon, the Cripps Cup for ‘Beat and Run’ – in which boats of 24 inches and over only have to tack ‘to windward’ (into the wind), pass around a buoy, before returning between two flags, but still only using manual setting of the sails! This cup is open to sailors of any age. Next Regatta 10th August.
Ticket Details: No club membership requirement. Entry £1 per boat (cash only). Boats can be borrowed for £1.

Bat Walk at National Trust Dunwich Heath

Meet at the Visitor Information Hut near the Coastguard Cottages for a special evening walk to discover a less well-known mammal, the bat. The varied habitats around Dunwich Heath supporting nine recorded species of Suffolk's bats. Join us for a fascinating evening stroll to observe the bats, learn more about their ecology and the work we do to support these elusive little mammals. Event suitable only for older children. Please bring a bat detector if you have one!
